The Jelly Heart Quilt Pattern is out! This beginner friendly quilt pattern is fun and fast. It's fat quarter and Jelly Roll friendly, plus it comes with two variations.
I love a good precut friendly quilt pattern. As much as possible I try to make my patterns fat quarter friendly. The Jelly Heart Quilt Pattern happens to be fat quarter and 2 1/2 inch precut strip (Jelly Roll) friendly.
You can get your copy of the Jelly Heart Quilt Pattern here.
If you don't know what a Jelly Roll is, it's a roll of fabric cut into 2 1/2 in. x WOF strips. Usually it's a full line of fabric. So if for instance a designer releases a large line, you can get a strip of each fabric from the line in a Jelly Roll. This is a good way to get a whole line of fabric without spending as much money as say buying a fat quarter bundle.
You can shop some Jelly Rolls here.
I named the Jelly Heart Quilt Pattern after the Jelly Roll so people would know right from the name that it's precut friendly.
If you use a Jelly Roll for this pattern a lot of the cutting is already done for you which makes the pattern come together even quicker.
If you don't have a Jelly Roll, the pattern also has an option for fat quarters. I made a couple samples this way, like the baby one in the picture below.
You can see the fabric requirements and quilt sizes below to see which fabrics you might want to use to make your version:
The Jelly Heart Pattern has two variations for sewing the hearts. You can either make it with strips which gives the heart a scrappy look, or you can make it with yardage (all one fabric).
See the picture below to see the difference between the scrappy heart and the yardage heart.
All of the sewing for this quilt is very basic and is a great beginner quilt pattern.
If you are a new quilter you do need to be able to sew a consistent 1/4 in. seam. It's especially important if sewing the scrappy heart version because each seam needs to match up when sewing the bottom of your heart.
The heart on the throw and twin sizes are the same. I wanted to make sure the heart wouldn't overwhelm a bed and could be easily seen when the quilt was on it. For this reason the pattern keeps the heart the same size for both those sizes.
The Jelly Heart is a great beginner friendly quilt pattern and would make a perfect gift for someone you love.
