Yesterday I just really wanted to sew and finish a project the same day. I have been super busy lately and haven't had time to sew. So I looked around, grabbed some fat quarters and half yards and got cutting.
Here's what happened...

I made a beginner friendly quilt which was easy, cute and fast. Just what I wanted. Here's how I did it and how you can too.
You need:
(7) fat quarters
(2) 1/2 yards of fabric
Cut all the fabric into 5 in. strips. Then, subcut into 5 in. x 5 in. squares.
You should get 12 squares from each fat quarter and 48 squares from each 1/2 yard.
That's a total of (132) 5 in. x 5 in. squares.
Sew 11 squares randomly together and press all seams in one direction. Repeat for the next row and press all seams in the opposite direction. Continue until you have 12 rows with seams pressed in alternating directions.
Sew rows together and nest seams. I pinned each seam to get a nice point.
Below you can see my three row progress.

My finished quilt top below. I even took a break to go get coffee and go to the park with the kids and husband.

Here we are! All finished! I love a simple quilt will all square blocks. They are my favorite and they allow the fabric to be the showcase.

How am I going to quilt it? Probably something simple like straight lines and not too dense. Do you have any ideas?
I've got a couple kits available in the shop so you can make your own easy, peasy lap quilt. I love all these fabrics, which I brought from India. The pink fabric with the white thread detail adds a little extra texture and is reminiscent of the Kantha quilts from India.
You can also grab your own fabrics from your stash or your favorite quilt shop and get sewing. This is such a fun, fast quilt and would make a lovely gift.
