Patriotic Quilt Patterns for America's 250th Birthday!

This July America comes up to 250 years of being a country!  It's a big celebration for a relatively new country.

We quilters love to use any excuse to buy a new pattern and fabric or spend more time sewing.  Well, I say celebrating a big birthday like 250 is worth commemorating with a new quilt!

Here are some of the best quilt pattern in the shop which are perfect for you 4th of July celebration.

Mismatched Stars and Stripes Quilt Pattern

If you are looking for a last minute pattern to make then the Mismatched Stars and Stripes is perfect. This pattern is fat quarter friendly and can definitely be sewn in a couple days.

Mismatched Stars and Stripes at a glance:

  • Includes baby, throw and twin sizes.
  • Uses fat quarters (can also use a Jelly Roll for the background fabric).
  • Uses strip piecing for the stripes to speed things up.
  • Uses the stitch and flip method for the flying geese (this means no trimming and makes it more beginner friendly!).
  • Includes the traditional sawtooth star quilt block.

Below you can see the patriotic version I made of this quilt a couple years ago. I used a combination of modern red, white and blue fabrics with a small dot background print.

It turned out so cute! I have the fabrics chosen to make another patriotic version this year. I'm waiting for them to come in the mail. I can hardly wait! This year's will be less traditional colors and include a bit of aqua and pink to add more of a color range.

I couldn't find the bundle I had in mind, so I went to Marmalade Mood Quilts and asked her to help curate a bundle for me. We had it done that same day! Check out her fabric shop in Etsy or ask for a patriotic bundle of your own and she will have some great options.

Northwest Stars Quilt

This pattern has all my favorite elements... stripes, four patch and stars. The Northwest Stars Quilt Pattern is a the perfect pattern for beginner quilters to grow their skills and learn the four at a time flying geese as well as practice the scant 1/4 inch seam.

  • Uses fat quarters.
  • Uses strip piecing for the stripes in the center of each block.
  • Features 4 at a time flying geese.
  • Perfect for the advanced beginner quilter.

You can see above all the versions I have made of this pattern so far. It's such a fun pattern to make, once you make one it's hard to stop. I haven't made a patriotic version, but it's a great year to!

Adelaide's Cabin Quilt Pattern

The last quilt pattern I have for you is not a quick make, but it sure is worth the time! Adelaide's Cabin uses the traditional log cabin block as a base, but adds sides to make a modern star block.

Adelaide's Cabin colage

Adelaide's Cabin Quilt Pattern at a glance:

  • Includes throw, twin and bed sizes.
  • Half yard, fat quarter and scrap friendly.
  • Half yard and fat quarter versions include strip piecings.
  • Perfect for the advanced beginner quilter.
  • Blocks are the perfect size to make a throw pillow.

I love making log cabin blocks! The joy of watching them grow as you sew each row is my favorite part. Using scraps with this pattern is very fun. If you happen to have a lot of red, white and blue fabrics this would make an excellent patriotic quilt.

Below you can see I had AI help me with a mock up of what Adelaide's Cabin could look like with red, white and blue fabrics.

The image is a bit heavy on the blue, but it gives a good idea. I love the look of this quilt!

Happy quilting!
