Winter Inspired Treetop Tidings Christmas Quilt

Treetop Tidings is my modern, Christmas themed quilt pattern. It's for those of us who love Christmas but don't want a super busy, crazy Christmas quilt to go along with it.

Treetop Tidings is precut friendly which makes it easy to grab whatever fabric you want. It is also an easy pattern to incorporate non-holiday themed fabric.

The Treetop Tidings Quilt Pattern uses fat eighths for the accent fabrics and LOTS of yardage for the background fabric. I almost ran out of the exact white I was using when making this one. Partly because this was my first one and I made some mistakes. It happens to all of us! Right...?

The pattern uses strip piecing for the triangles. This gives your quilt a variety of trees and saves you time.

This winter inspired quilt is the first version of the Treetop Tidings Pattern I ever made, so it doesn't quite match the pattern. I included some solid trees which are not pieced. Please note in the pattern all the trees are pieced.

Treetop Tidings uses a 60 degree triangle for each tree. This is a good quilt block to learn if you haven't made them before. It's important to have consistent seams and the correct angle of cuts for this block or they won't come out square. If you have never made any before, I suggest practicing by cutting up some old fabric. Make sure the blocks measure the correct measurements and are square before starting your quilt.

Treetop Tidings includes a template. However, I think it is much easier to use a 60 degree ruler. I am not usually one for buying special rulers and just like to keep the basic ones around. However, this is a good ruler to have because you can make a lot of different patterns with a 60 degree triangle.

This is the Creative Grids 60 Degree Triangle Ruler I use.

Treetop Tidings includes 2 sizes, throw (63 in. x 79 in.) and twin (72 in. x 98 in.). This quilt is the throw size and is quite large.

My favorite part of this pattern might just be the pop of yellow at the top of each Christmas tree. The square gives a little color, but no complicated piecing.

When I went to lay out the blocks for this quilt I couldn't quite decide how to lay them out or if I should stagger them. So taping them up on the wall and taking an Instagram pole helped. After I put up the pole I knew which way I wanted people to vote. 😂 That meant I knew which way I wanted the pattern to look.

I finished off this quilt with straight line quilting, 1 inch apart. It was easy and didn't detract from the trees or simpleness of the quilt.

I got about as close as you can get to running out of binding fabric. I was four inches short and realized I had little bits of the part I trimmed which I could sew on to make up the four inches. It's not pretty, but it worked and isn't noticeable.

Treetop Tidings has become such a fun, modern Christmas quilt to have around my house. I love the frosty trees in this version. You can read about another Treetop Tidings quilt I made using a non traditional Christmas bundle here

To add little extra to this quilt I hand stitched some lines around the top of 4 or 5 tree tops on both quilts I made. I chose random trees throughout the quilt top. It adds a little detail which isn't super noticeable, but adds that extra personal touch.

You can see the little rays of light I hand stitched to the top of the tree in the image below. It adds a cute little detail throughout.

It's always time to make a Christmas quilt to have ready for the holiday season. This winter themed quilt pattern is perfect to grow your quilting skills. You can buy your copy in my shop
