Auntie Anita's Patchwork Quilt was designed to be modern, beginner friendly and just basically a joy to make. With basic piecing and large alternating blocks, the quilt is fast and hassle free.
To top it all off, Auntie Anita's Patchwork Quilt is fat quarter AND scrap friendly!! So as my son would say, "It's an everythinger."

The Auntie Anita's Patchwork Quilt is a block based quilt pattern. The pieced blocks contain 5 units. All piecing is easy, beginner level and all seams are pressed to one side.
No seams need to be matched up until the rows are sewn together. This makes for hassle free, beginner friendly sewing.
There is also no trimming in the pattern! Yay!
If you are a beginner quilter this is a great pattern to work on maintaining a consistent 1/4 inch seam. I suggest using a seam guide to help, or a 1/4 inch foot on your machine. If you don't know if your sewing foot is a 1/4 inch foot, I suggest looking in your machine guide or searching online.
When I was a beginner quilter years ago I used a magnetic seam guide on my entry level machine. This is a great, inexpensive tool for beginner quilters. Make sure that your machine does not have a computer and magnets are fine to use with your machine.
Auntie Anita's Patchwork Quilt Pattern includes 4 sizes:
* Note: FE stands for Fat Eighth and FQ stands for Fat Quarter
I was inspired to design this quilt by a pile of striped woven fabrics I brought back from a visit to India (Read about this quilt and fabric here). I wanted a basic design that wasn't overwhelming and which the stripes could stand out without overwhelming the quilt.
But, it turns out I actually made my first version of this pattern with completely different fabrics all together.
I had seen the fabric line Carousel by Melody Miller for Ruby Star Society at my local quilt shop. I loved the polka doted fabric and thought what a fun background fabric it would make.
I was able to pick out my fabric quickly because I just needed to choose which color polka dot to use and then grab 8 fat quarters to make the throw size.
This is the beautify of fat quarter quilts. It makes choosing fabrics very easy. I was in and out of the quilt shop in about 10 minutes which is a big deal because I am not great at choosing fabrics.
The Carousel line has several directional prints in it. I usually don't worry much about which direction my prints are going. But the Auntie Anita's Patchwork Quilt is easy to keep directional prints all going in one direction. So I made sure to include the directional horse prints into the quilt.
I did not fussy cut any of my fabrics for this quilt. However, this pattern is a great one to try this skill at if you are new to quilting. I have a simple "Fussy Cutting 101" blog post here. Which explains to you what fussy cutting is and a little about how to do it.
This quilt came together so fast! If you are a beginner quilter, then don't expect or worry about how long it takes you to make a quilt.
If you are an experienced quilter then know that this quilt comes together quickly. You can easily make one in a day.
I sent this quilt out to be quilted by my friend Kait from Knot and Thread Design. Mostly I did this to save time.
However, this throw isn't too large and is a good size to learn to quilt your own quilts with.
Kait helped me choose this panto. I let her choose the scale of the design when she quilts it and unless I have a specific color in mind she usually chooses the thread color too. She knows what I like and does a great job every time.
By the way, if you want to know who Auntie Anita is...
She is this amazing lady who has been a part of our family since my youngest was a couple months old.
Auntie Antia's Patchwork Quilt is simple, yet perfect for trying out some new skills, or trying out your hand at your first quilt. It's really a pattern for everyone. I know you will love making it as much as I have.
