Jelly Heart Quilt - The Baby Size One

Today I'm sharing about the baby sized quilt I made using the Jelly Heart Quilt Pattern. This pattern is beginner friendly and perfect for precuts.

When I design a pattern I try to make most of the sizes. Baby sizes are always the easiest to make and usually the first to be sewn. This Jelly Heart Quilt was no exception.

You can find your copy of the Jelly Heart Quilt Pattern here.

To make the Jelly Heart Quilt you can use either 2 1/2 inch precut strips (Jelly Rolls) or you can use fat quarters and cut them up into the correct size strips. For this quilt I decided to do the later. This makes the quilt easy to sew because you can grab a fat quarter bundle or use a precut Jelly Roll and have all the fabrics you need. It's a no brainer kind of quilt!

For this quilt I dug into my stash and pulled some soft pink fat quarters which I thought looked good together.

The Jelly Heart Pattern has two variations for the heart. You can sew it scrappy or make it all one fabric. For this quilt I decided to use all one fabric.

I found a fabric from my stash which I thought went well with the light pink fabrics and which would create a contrast.

The baby size only requires 1/3 yard of fabric for the heart fabric. So I was easily able to find a fabric in my stash.

You can read more information about the pattern here.

This pattern is written with three sizes:
  • Baby 40 in. x 40 in.
  • Throw 60 in. x 70 in.
  • Twin 72 in. x 90 in.

You need to be able to sew a consistent 1/4 inch seam to sew the quilt. It is listed as a pattern for the advanced beginner. Most of the sewing is very easy and there is no trimming, so everything moves along fast.

Because this quilt finishes at 40 in. x 40 in. I used 1 yard of fabric and then a couple scraps of other fabrics to make the backing. Right now I am all about using what I already have to make backings, especially using up old fabric that I have had sitting around for several years.

I quilted this by sewing 1/2 inch in from each seam which made the lines each 1 inch apart across the whole quilt.

If you a new to quilting, baby size quilts are a great way to practice basting and quilting. They are so much easier to work with than a large quilt. This went super fast because of it's size.

I think this turned out to be such a cute little quilt. It would be such a nice gift for a new baby or family. The pattern is fast and easy so you can make one for someone you love in your life, or for yourself. :)
